Unique features of the Department

The senior faculties are working in the department for more than last 10 years. One of the first postgraduate specialties to be recognized by MCI in the institution since 2001.

Facilities available

Various forms of anaesthesia services and sedation as per protocols for all twenty operation theatres of the hospital.

The operation theatres are equipped with state of the art technologies in the form of modern anaesthesia machines (low flow), multipara monitors , airway management gadgets, (in the form of fibreoptic bronchoscope, LMAs of all sizes including Proseal,and intubating LMA, IGel, exchange catheters, Bougies, etc ), all recently available drugs in the market, biphasic defibrillators, syringe pumps, IV and surface body warmers, Ultrasonography machine to guide insertion of vascular catheters and providing practice of safe regional anaesthesia etc .

Activities/Services available

  • Providing Anaesthesia (General/Regional) to all elective and emergency surgeries in the hospital.
  • Providing monitored Anaesthesia care in certain surgeries and procedures which are done under local Anaesthesia for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes in the operation theatres, Endoscopy suites, Radiology Suites (CT Scan, MRI), Radiotherapy centres, Cardiac catheterization lab, Lithotripsy Van etc.
  • Providing pre-Anaesthesia Assessment services on Outpatient basis for optimization before surgical procedure.
  • Providing resuscitation services , at Trauma centre ; as a part of Code Blue Team in the hospital campus.
  • Providing services like- securing IV access , RT insertion, CVP insertion, arterial cannulation, Endotracheal Intubation across the hospital in response to a call from other specialties.
  • Providing care during transport of a critically ill patient in the ambulance.
  • Providing postoperative analgesia in patients where indwelling epidural catheters are inserted for a period upto 4-15 days.
    eg. Joint replacement surgeries, any major thoracic ,abdominal surgeries.
  • Providing post anaesthesia care in the recovery rooms after surgeries.
  • Providing thoracic epidural analgesia for patients of chest trauma admitted to IMC, ICU, wards etc.
  • Providing High risk obstetric anaesthesia services and labor analgesia especially in high risk delivery and ‘on demand’ by patients.
  • Pain Clinic - services for Cancer pain, Chronic pain, Acute on chronic pain on OPD as well as indoor basis.
    Palliative care in Cancer patients as and when demanded.
  • Monitoring the critically ill postoperative and post traumatic patients in SICU under guidance of an intensivist.
  • Training of Technical, Paramedical and nursing staff in resuscitation, infection control practices and sensitization for pain relief measures.
  • Providing services to extension centres (Sevaliya ) as and when consulted – to help develop the operation theater , in management of complicated cases , train the staff in Basic life support etc

Innovative practices in patient care / UG & /or PG Medical education / extension services

  • The Pre anaesthesia Assessment clinic run by a team of consultant and residents for the convenience of the opd patients to optimize the patients medical condition preoperatively, prevent unplanned surgeries and reduce the incidence of postponement/ cancellations of scheduled surgeries.
  • Management of acute pain in indoor patients , especially post operative / posttraumatic Using multimodal analgesia techniques – combination of systemic drugs and regional anaesthesia.
  • Management of chronic and Cancer Pain in the’ Pain Clinic’ – managed by Dr Alpa Patel along with a team of resident doctors.
  • Development of Skill lab for UG and PG teaching by acquisition of basic clinical training manniquins.
  • As a clinical Training group chairman Dr Hemlata Kamat– started the clinical clerkship program for the final year MBBS students .
  • Training and Assessing students of Second and Third year BSc- Operation Theatre Assistant and Anaesthesia technician course by Sardar Patel University.

Unique features of the Department

Biochemistry is at the heart of various medical disciplines like Physiology, Genetics, Medicine, Pathology, Microbiology and Community Medicine. Therefore, it is very important to have an in depth knowledge of Biochemistry for both M.B.B.S. and M.D. Students and practicing doctors as well. The knowledge and skills in Biochemistry are of paramount importance in differentiating health from diseases. The clinicians have a full gamut of biochemical tests for judicious selection for diagnosing various pathological states. Hence, in addition to imparting knowledge and skills of Biochemistry to the U.G. and P.G. Students, the department has well developed Clinical Biochemical and research labs.

All the necessary laboratory tests like routine, emergency and special including endocrines and tumor markers are being done in the laboratory.

The Clinical Biochemistry laboratory is accredited by NABL and is fully equipped with sophisticated instruments like fully automated analyzers, Cobas, integra 400+, Cobas e411, AVL electrolyte analyzer and ABG analyzer in addition to semi auto analyzer. The research laboratory has got a UV spectrophotometer, thermocycler, UV transilluminator, microbalance, electrophoresis apparatus, etc.

The Clinical Biochemistry lab is catering to the needs of the hospital 24 × 7. Residents and Technicians are posted round the clock in the hospital service lab.
All the routine, emergency and special tests are done in the lab.
The Ph.D. and MD students work on various research projects.

The Department of Pharmacology's commitment to medical education is clear throughout its history and today in teaching and training students the main concept of Rational Use of Medicine.

This is the first department in India to start teaching UG medical students P drug concept through problem based pharmacotherapy WHO 's teaching model in the year 2000.

Pharmacovigilance Centre functions under the aegis of Pharmacovigilance program of India (PvPI), National Pharmacopoeia Commission, Ghaziabad, The Department devised the hospital formulary of Shri Krishna Hospital, Karamsad.

  • Diagnostic laboratory is equipped with Biological safety cabinet (with Laminar Flow),Cooling centrifuge, BOD Incubator, Automated Immuno assay processor - mini VIDAS, BacT/Alert Automated Blood Culture System ,VITEK 2 Compact –Automated identification and AST system, ELISA Reader, ELISA Washer along with all necessary basic facility.
  • Standard (ATCC) strains for bacteria and fungi are available for Quality control.
  • Various antisera are also available for confirmation of some bacteria.
  • Departmental research lab. is equipped with various equipments like Electrophoresis apparatus, western blot shaker, inverted microscope, inspissator etc.

The term Community Medicine is only a new terminology and successor of the terms hygiene, preventive and social medicine and public health.

It is a branch of medicine which deals with the study of preventive, promotive, curative, rehabilitative and evaluative services to the community at large through an organized comprehensive health care delivery system.

The goal is to identify the health problems and needs of the community and to provide comprehensive health care in an organized manner followed by evaluation.

Teaching, training, research work and assessment for MBBS, MD & DPH students by various teaching learning- methods.

Through rural health training centre (RHTC) and Urban health training centre (UHTC) provides comprehensive health care facilities to the community.

We extensively operate Head & Neck cancers along with reconstruction which includes not only pedicle flaps but also free flaps.

We are one of the premiere institutes in the state for cochlear implant surgery where all facilities are available right from diagnosing, operating and post-operative auditary-verbal rehabilitation all under one roof .

Advanced Endoscopic surgery for Anterior Skull base – for eg endoscopic pituitary tumours removal / endoscopic CSF leak repair / optic nerve decompression / orbital decompression. Ours is the only center in Gujarat where the department of E.N.T is managing facio-maxillary trauma.

We are the only centre offering universal neonatal hearing screening programme for all neonates born in this institute.

Facilities available

We have 0', 30'.45', and 70' endoscopes for nasal and endoscopic sinus surgeries and endoscopic skull base surgeries, 90' endoscopes & 15' video laryngoscopes for micro laryngeal surgeries, Flexible nasopharyngolaryngoscope & Flexible video bronchoscopes for diagnostic and therapeutic uses.

Microscopes with latest technology for micro ear surgeries and cochlear implant with video recording & live surgery telecasting. OAE & BERA machine with best available technology. State of the art audiological set up for hearing assessment and speech rehabilitation for cochlear implant patients.

Activities/Services available

The Department of ENT has state-of-the-art facility to provide affordable and complete care with issues related to otorhinolaryngology (ear, nose and throat).

Microsurgery of the Ear: Microsurgery of the ear is provided to restore hearing loss due to otosclerosis, trauma, chronic otitis media and secretary otitis media.

Endoscopic Sinus Surgery and Rhinology: The Department has a strong interest and expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of sinus diseases.

Laryngology: Surgical and medical services are provided to patients having oral cavity, oropharynx, laryngopharynx and laryngeal pathologies. The procedures include tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, thyroplasty and microlaryngeal surgery.

Head and Neck Cancer: This Department caters to the patients of head and neck cancer particularly carcinoma of the upper respiratory & alimentary tracts, salivary glands and thyroid glands. Surgical procedures performed are laryngectomy, maxillectomy, neck dissections, composite resection, thyroidectomy, parotidectomy, glossectomy, etc. Rehabilitation through surgical reconstruction and speech and voice therapy is also provided.

Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery: Facial plastic and reconstructive surgery is provided for patients.

Audiology and Speech-language pathology: Evaluation and treatment services are provided for adults with speech, language, swallowing, balance, tinnitus and hearing problems.

Cochlear Implant Programme: The cochlear implantation (CI) program was started in 2006 under the chairmanship of Prof.Girish Mishra and the first pediatric patient was successfully operated upon in April in 2008. Till now we have performed 22 cochlear implant surgeries in adults and children including cases which were prelingually deaf and patients who were postlingually deaf.

Temporal Bone Laboratory: Residents have started performing temporal bone dissection and laboratory is regularly being used for their training.

Unique Features

The Department of Neonatology is young and was carved out of the Department of Pediatrics on 19 December 2019. The department was primarily responsible for NICU care since 2008, and since almost a decade has been offering a with a Fellowship in Neonatology.

The department's senior faculty is well recognized for their academic, teaching, and research achievements across India. They are regular speakers at National and International conferences and members of important task forces of government and academic bodies. The Department has a high number of publications to its credit, many of them cited in International Guidelines and Cochrane reviews.

Innovative practices in patient care / UG & /or PG Medical education / extension services

  • Our DM Students undergo training in external centers for about two months (including 15 dates of community Neonatology).
  • The DM students undergo additional training in Quality Improvement and Research Methodology and are expected to publish papers before they complete their training.
  • The residents and consultants attend deliveries at referring hospitals and are well-versed in Neonatal transport.
  • The students learn while managing patients, and training includes bedside rounds as well as formal classroom sessions – mainly small group learning as well as conduction of Journal Clubs, Seminars, Joint sessions with other Departments, Lectures as well as regular presentations at Conferences and attending Workshops.

Innovative Practices in patient care/ UG & PG Medical Education/Extension Srevices:

We collaborate with schools for injury prevention education and participate in local and regional disaster response planning. Additionally, we utilize various media platforms; like the local community radio station   to disseminate information about emergency medical conditions and prevention. Our community outreach includes educational workshops on first aid, CPR, and disaster preparedness. We offer Hands on training through simulation based learning, procedural skills training and real life patient care. By incorporating these innovative practices, we strive to provide exceptional patient care, educate future healthcare professionals, and strengthen our community's emergency preparedness.

Unique features of the  Department

The  Department  of  Immunohematology  and Blood   Transfusion at PSMC , Karamsad, was started with initiation of  PG  course ( NMC Permission)  in the year  2023.  MD in Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion is a post graduate course which is a unique multidimensional speciality that incorporates elements of immunohematology , transfusion therapy for hematological disorders and integrates advanced scientific  technology. After completing the Course , the individual can  work as a transfusion medicine consultant in hospitals, as an academician in teaching hospitals, as a medical officer in a blood Centre, as a medical advisor for diagnostic/Manufacturing /Pharmacologic companies, as a consultant in regenerative medicine Centre/transplant Centre, as a team member for Government Advisory boards(NACO),NBTC,SBTC.

  • Blood Donation services with permission from GSCBT  to Conduct out door Blood Donation camps. Our Annual Collection from Voluntary  Blood Donors is 10,000  and Blood Centre caters to need of Blood of  Sri Krishna Hospital and adjoining Hospitals of the District Anand.
  • Advanced Immunohematology lab with two automated  Pretransfusion testing equipments .
